the overlook

501 runs right along our apartment.
Seems dangerous, but it hasn’t ever caused us any problems.

Eight second exposure.

Hollins Mill stood full of ice this week despite the warm weather.
How much longer until the leaves come back?

More downtown photos.

Speakertree Records.  Loves it.

downtown Lynchburg

I wish we had time to take advantage of it more.

icy

Cold and wet outside.

Cold photo for the day.

ISO up to 1600, aperature purposely low (I have forgotten the exact).

Part of me regrets that you must compromise with extra noise with a high ISO, but Chris likes grain.  So, whatevs.

for dinner

Stirfry with tofu!

Why teaching Engl 101 is so entertaining

Student A:  What is your thesis on?
Me:  The apocalypse in the novels of Kurt Vonnegut, which I argue is brought on by excess.  Where does progress end and regression begin?
Student A:  That’s why I’m not an English major….
Student B:  Have you seen Apocalypse Now?
Me:  I’ve seen parts of it.
Student C:  Dude!!  Have you seen Apocalypto?
Me:  Okay, that movie has even less to do with my thesis.  It just sounds like “apocalypse”.

I don’t know what is going to happen all the way–or at all–and I know reading that gets annoying.

Sometimes I feel very ready to live somewhere with a backyard so this dog can look like a cheetah and actually get to be outside without a leash.

And I feel like that is possible here.

It seems like I don’t have a future in Virginia.

Dear Warm Weather,

STAY!

Without hope…

It will feel quite refreshing to be able to do this again.

Today’s warmth has gotten me too excited.

We’re mapping out a three to four day trip (depending on the weather) to the Grayson Highlands this spring.

I will find the wild ponies!

I watched Milk last night on a computer.  It hurt my heart.  It ended a debate.

It was supposed to snow today. It didn’t.

I worked on my thesis the whole weekend non-stop except for couple of thirty-minute walks and a quick trip to the grocery store.  I only have a 10-page conclusion to write and my first draft with be completely done!  I’ve gone back and started revising as well.  It has gone fast and has been easier than I thought it’d be.  I probably made it harder on myself than necessary, even.

Due to all the writing, Chris and I found ourselves more or less only able to talk about topics revolving around our theses.  Here’s a Vonnegut conversation that I guess not too many people will get, but oh well.

Chris:  “Lonesome no more!”  Don’t you want to write that on everything?
Kt:  It’d be a good metal band name.
Chris:  And their first song would be titled, “Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt”.
