As Fitzgerald would say, it feels like football weather.
Chris discovered a blog that I can relate to: Some Small Sense. It is written by a petite woman in New York City on the quest to find clothes despite her small size. I can definitely appreciate clothes issues. As a 4′11.5″ tall adult weighing 93 pounds, I frequently receive questioning looks when any issue of my age arises. I’ve always had trouble finding clothes…. Extra smalls at Target are quite often too large…. Adult petites are ridiculously huge on me. The best luck that I have found is at H&M if I can manage to find a two–although, these are usually slightly too big and a rare find. A zero would be perfect, but they do not exist in the H&M world. Plus, the closest H&M is two hours away.
As our country finds obesity rising to epidemic numbers, people of smaller stature are forgotten. It simply is not cost-effective for the companies to carry sizes that probably will just sit on the racks. I wrote Forever 21 a letter asking if they ever planned to carry extra smalls. About three years later, no response in written form or action. It seems that my best hope is to become better at doing my own alterations. Erg. That isn’t very promising. I like making little creatures out of felt, but that and sewing up holes and attaching buttons are about the extent of my abilities. Anyway, the blog offers some comical let-downs. Too bad that it hasn’t been updated in almost a year.
Life has been very busy lately causing me to not update much. We finished up our first week at J. Crew. We basically just sat in the classroom doing training, which was a tad boring, but I’m not sure that it could be exciting to learn how to operate a database. We’ve been trying to keep the adventures coming despite work in order to steer away from the typical, repetitive life centered on work. I think we’ve done a pretty good job and once we get on the phones, work will be more fun.
We went to Otter Creek on Sunday, which is just 25 minutes from our apartment. I was really surprised! We did a three-hour long hike along the creek.

Yesterday we met my parents half-way to Chesapeake for lunch. It was really nice to see them, even if it was for a short visit, but the trip wasn’t just for entertainment. We forget to get the top layer of our wedding cake from their freezer the last time that we were down and next Tuesday is our first anniversary. Time has gone by so fast this year. During the year, it felt like we had been married for so much longer since it seemed so normal of a transition. However, now that I’m staring at the number, I’m really astounded. A whole year…. What is even stranger is the thought that it’ll be our fourth anniversary since we started dating. Now that is becoming a big number.
After we got back, we managed to somehow get the cake in the fridge. Then Stephanie, Lydia, and Amber came over for a Memorial Day cook out with hamburgers and hot dogs. Originally, we had planned to meet at Hollins Mill, but it was hot and beginning to look overcast. Plus, none of us had paper plates.
Now today is our last day of our extremely long weekend away from work. Since we’ve had a rather adventurous break thus far, I think we’ll just lounge around and do some laundry and thesis research. Gotta get going on that.
“Help! This man is kidnapping us!”

Downtown!

Abed-nego and I are very frightened by a butterfly.

I love not needing to use Photoshop aside from re-sizing and other small alterations.
Chris: Is that an animal over there or just another grave?
Katie: I don’t think it’s an animal….
Chris: It kind of looks like a red panda.
Katie: IT IS A TURKEY!
Whoever heard of finding a turkey in a graveyard?!?!

A cat is more likely.

You can see more photos from today on our flickr page.
I took a break from revising my Postmodern term paper to take a couple of pictures.
I had been staring at the darn paper all day on Thursday. It’s finally done, and I turned it in yesterday.

I kind of wish that I had focused on the brim of the cup more than the espresso, but oh well.

We have our summer jobs all set up and everything is coming together. We’ll have three days in a row off, which will allow for a good break and the possibility of mini-trips into the wilderness. I’m expecting a summer full of adventures: researching, reading, writing, mountain climbing, photographing, music making (I have written and recorded half of a rap song, but Chris said I can’t put it up until I write an acoustic song to counter it. The rap song is about dinosaurs that become gangstas), waterfall finding, trail map decoding, GRE-retaking, Ph.D. application filling out, and of course, a lot of inevitable sweating.
Abed-nego doesn’t like to sit still for photos. He always runs toward me.

I love my 50mm, but I really want a new lens to play with. It’s been a while.
I want the lens to end all lenses. That doesn’t exist.

Yes, I do keep my bathroom mirror clean.
I wish we were cool enough to help take wedding photos.
